You probably came here because you want to learn English. Or you want to improve your English. Or you want to take an English test. Or get a job speaking English. However you came here, whatever the reason, welcome!

You are not alone. Many people in Turkey want to learn English, including hundreds of thousands of people in Ankara. But nobody wakes up and thinks ‘today is learn English day’. You will have your own motivation to improve your English. We understand that everyone has different reasons and everyone has different needs.

Common examples of people we work with are

• students studying university courses taught in English (Bilkent, ODTU / METU, Hacettepe, Ankara, Cankaya, TOBB, Baskent, Gazi, etc)
• students planning to study at university (Turkish students, Iranian students, Iraqi students, many others)
• academics seeking promotion (university professors, researchers)

and so many other situations. Sometimes people just want to learn English for fun!

Some unusual examples we have had:

• Turkish grandparents whose daughter had married an American. They just wanted to be able to speak fluent English with their grandchildren
• Gaming enthusiasts playing international matches. They wanted more fluent English to communicate better with foreign friends.

English language is everywhere. Everyone is expected to have some ability to communicate in English.

So the problem is, if you need to improve your English, how will you do it?

Is ‘free’ enough for you to improve your English?

There are many mobile phone applications. There are plenty of free videos on YouTube and Facebook. There are countless free websites. If all you want to do is improve your general ability these may be enough. However, for most people some kind of lessons are necessary.

Do you need expert help to improve your English?

For example, if you need to get a test score by a deadline, you probably need help. If you have already taken a test and you did not get the score you needed, you may really benefit from some expert assistance. So if you need to find a course or class, what are your choices?

Too many choices …

There are private language schools, private language teachers, Yurt Disi services offering language help, and quite a few speaking clubs. How do you know which one is right for you?

Of course, some of these are better than others and offer more services, but delivering all of these services with a clear plan and consistently high quality and results is not easy. To improve your English you want the best. Lots of schools start with an ambition of being the best, but which best? Their best or your best? Also, quality is expensive, so generally they prefer to call a specialist to provide the missing parts.

Yes, we are experienced general English teachers. We have given classes to thousands of students in Turkey. We deliver all levels from A1 Beginner to C2 Advanced. We provide clear progress. We have a lot of very happy students.

Business English?

Yes, as well as teaching, we are active entrepreneurs and business consultants. We help businesses of all sizes to improve processes, re-align human resource organization, and make more sales. Because we know a lot about business and a lot about English language, we can help you. We have helped lots of business executives and workers to improve their English at work. We have helped them to gain promotion, change jobs, or relocate abroad.

Native English Speakers and English Test Examiners

These are really valuable things that a lot of students appreciate. But the value that we really add is that we are a mix of native speakers and examiners. This gives us all of the right experience, techniques and connections to give you the optimum chance of achieving your maximum English score.

Will it work for you?

In the last six years we have helped over 150 private students and many hundreds more in classes at various language schools to pass academic English exams. All with high enough grades to successfully apply to their chosen American, British, Canadian, Australian, European or Turkish university. The majority are GMAT, followed by IELTS, then roughly equal numbers of GRE, SAT, and TOEFL, and finally PTEA and ACT.

We send most people to MBA or management courses, but we have also had large numbers of architects, electronic engineers, computer engineers, mechanical engineers, industrial designers, doctors, airline personnel, and many others.

Does your school really understand your problems?

For example, teaching general English does not help students to pass academic English exams. Too many schools and teachers just bla bla bla the standard course materials without providing individual support. The same course materials are used in Brazil, China, Germany and other countries. Do you think those countries have the same language issues as Turks when learning English? How can you improve your English if the teacher does not understand this?

Turkish speakers learning English need special help

Teachers need to understand that there are particular problems for Turkish speakers learning English, just as there are for Chinese, German, or Spanish speakers learning English. Each culture has its own grammar rules, idiomatic structures, and cultural perspectives of how to describe or relate to situations. They also have special vocabulary forms or pronunciation styles.

Academic tests: culture more than language

The academic tests demand both a deeply technical and a philosophical understanding of English at the most advanced levels. Even native English speakers would not find them easy. Your English course says you are now C1 / Upper Intermediate or C2 / Advanced. Is this true? Is it enough to get the score you want from the exam you need to pass?

Unfortunately, probably not.
