This realistic use of business English language more accurately reflects the kinds of situations that people are likely to experience when using English in the workplace. It can be used equally well to assess individuals or workgroups in use of the four core language skills.

iTEP uses a mix of scenarios and roleplay using work vocabulary and the cultural use of business language in both formal and informal situations. Is iTEP the right test for you?

There is no clear standard for business English certification. There are too many widely different potential situations where it can be used. Also, the market for businesses and organizations requiring a business English certificate is much smaller than the academic marketplace. It is still a useful thing to have, and iTEP provides a good accredited level that will be useful in most situations. We are happy to answer questions about preparing for your iTEP in Ankara, and to offer advice.

Is it good value for money?

iTEP is less well-established than the other more popular business English exams. It is accepted by over 700 institutions globally. There are over 600 test centres in over 40 countries. iTEP Business has been used by hundreds of academic institutions and many leading global companies. Use of the test is growing especially quickly in key emerging markets for international business, such as Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, India, Iran, Indonesia, Korea, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. It is offered as a computer-delivered test by appointment, with results available within one business day. It is also available as a paper-based test if requested. iTEP is also recognized by some universities and a range of governments around the world. iTEP is trusted by enough organizations to be worth the money, and has great practical value in workplaces where English is the working language.

How is the test scored?	There are five sections in the Official iTEP Score Report: Grammar, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Each section has the points converted to a percentage, which is then reflected as an iTEP banding score out from 0-6, roughly aligned to the CEFR A1-C2 ability range. This table provides an approximate banding score.

What is a good iTEP score?	A good score is whatever the University or employer you have applied to is asking you to achieve, or the employer asks for. It doesn’t matter what other people score, it’s all about you against the test. The iTEP test is designed to provide an objective test of your ability across analysis of complex English skills, to meet the level of English required on your academic course or work environment.
Excellent Scores	5.6 - 6.0	Get a score of 5.6 or more and you are at approximately the same level as a native English speaker. With a score in this range, any institution or organisation asking you to provide an iTEP score will be satisfied.
Good Scores	5.0 - 5.5	Most of our students are aiming for a score of 5.0 or more. It is a solid result demonstrating good all round ability, and accepted by companies and academic institutions participating in the iTEP scheme.
Basic Acceptable Scores	4.0-4.9	If your aim is not academic excellence, but more about getting to a particular country, then a score in this range should enable you to attend a wide range of quite reasonable universities or gain employment or promotion in many companies.
Low Scores	3.9 or less.	This score will not be sufficient for most purposes, so it may be worth studying more and taking the test again to improve your score.

What are the iTEP alternatives?	If the employer wants you to pass an exam, there are internationally accepted alternatives in BULATS and BEC, and many nationally accepted alternatives. You may also be asked to take a test specific to that institution or organisation.
